about the writer
The essence of all my writing is a blending of science and society and nature. All to help me, and therefore I hope my reader, see that each of us understands the world – both the natural and built ones - through a unique perspective. The scientific and engineering voice is deeply important to me because my overarching professional aim is sustainability, which requires a sound technical basis. But equally as important is to understand the limitations of that voice and how other voices add other perspectives.
I am clearly not alone in believing that we live in an unsustainable – I call it inelegant - way on the planet. There are better ways. Change begins with understanding. My writing seeks to create awareness, not to offer solutions. My hope is that my voice combines with others to lead to a much greater understanding of the natural world and our role within that larger set of interacting systems. That could lead to a sustainable way of living. Maybe even to elegance.
